Ferragamo Spring/Summer 2026 Revives the Glamour of the Twenties with a Contemporary Spirit

Sep 30, 2025

At the Spring/Summer 2026 show, Maximilian Davis revived the spirit of the 1920s through a contemporary lens infused with his own signature touch, blending Ferragamo's rich archives with the rebellious energy that defined the era.

His starting point was a 1925 image of silent film star Lola Todd dressed head to toe in leopard print, a visual reference that evoked the Africana movement of the Jazz Age. Rather than simply reproducing it, Davis reimagined the motif through animal patterned silk satin devoré, luxurious leather accessories, and fringed embellishments, giving the collection a modern edge that balanced opulence with boldness.

What struck me most was how Davis translated the idea of "liberated femininity" from that era into our present. Tailored speakeasy inspired suits, straight dresses with lace cut outs, and low waist, low back gowns captured women's desire at the time to break away from social constraints. On the men's side, Harlem Renaissance flair came alive through oversized zoot suits and ties cleverly reinterpreted as scarf sashes draped around tuxedo waists or integrated into patchwork dresses.

The details went even further, bold color blocking appeared in saturated patent leathers and fine gauge knits, while printed florals on silk crepon echoed Ferragamo's archival imagery.

The footwear felt like statements in themselves, from the "S" heel revisiting a historic style, to pointed pumps wrapped in Gancini chains, to bead embroidered boudoir mules, and a reimagined men's derby stretched into a modern silhouette. Each design balanced classical craftsmanship with contemporary experimentation.

As for bags, the house icon, the Hug Bag, returned in new finishes, from glossy patent and stamped croc to woven and nubuck leather, reaffirming its versatility. I was especially drawn to the folded foulard inspired bag in seasonal colors with detachable Gancini hardware, as well as feather trimmed designs that added a poetic, whimsical touch.

For me, what makes this collection truly stand out is not just its revival of the 1920s but its ability to make the era relevant for today's woman and man, elegant yet strong, bold yet liberated. It is a dialogue between past and present, between classicism and experimentation, and a reminder that Ferragamo's legacy continues to reinvent itself with every new season.
