The importance of Elsa Schiaparelli’s relations within the Surrealist community is particularly evident in her accessory designs. During the Depression many artists and even writers, especially those at the beginning of their careers, freelanced as fashion illustrators or as designers of textiles and accessories. One of the artists who designed accessories for Schiaparelli was Alberto Giacometti. During the early 1930s he created for her a series of gilt metal brooches and buttons in the form of gorgons, sirens, birds, and angels.
Today, Creative Director Daniel Roseberry continues to draw inspiration from this unique heritage, punctuating his creations with the Maison’s unique codes, such as the padlock, anatomical features and the peace dove on Schiaparelli gold bijoux buttons
