Roger Vivier Opens the New Maison Vivier in Paris Celebrating Heritage, Creativity, and the Iconic Shoe

Oct 8, 2025

In the heart of the historic Saint Germain des Prés district, at 98 Rue de l’Université, Roger Vivier has inaugurated its new headquarters, Maison Vivier, marking a return to the Left Bank and the founder's historic neighborhood. This opening represents more than a mere relocation, it is a living masterpiece that blends rich heritage with contemporary innovation, creating a vibrant space where the spirit of Roger Vivier continues to inspire creativity and craftsmanship.

The building dates back to 1729, when it was constructed by royal architect Jacques Gilet de la Fontaine. It stands as an architectural gem encompassing nearly three centuries of Parisian history, from its aristocratic origins to its bourgeois transformations, then serving the French government, and later undergoing renovations by François Avignon, who added a small chapel. Meticulous restoration work has preserved the building's authentic architectural identity while adapting it to house the Maison's workshops, archives, and salons. Visitors are welcomed by a grand staircase adorned with gilded details, guiding them on a journey from heritage to contemporary design. Behind the building lies a secret garden inspired by classical French style, completing the Parisian elegance and refined living experience.

Curated by Inès de La Fressange, the Heritage Salon showcases Roger Vivier's creations from the 1950s to the 1990s alongside portraits of his famous muses, highlighting the brilliance of his design vision. The salon is furnished with pieces from the 1960s and 1970s, including metal shelving by Xavier Feal, Barcelona chairs by Mies van der Rohe, and carpets and curtains by Vincent Darré and Pierre Frey, reflecting the Maison’s artistic daring, from the iconic Virgule heel to the Belle Vivier shoe and its sculptural buckles.

Le Salon Vivier evokes the intimate world of the founder, where Regency chairs and Louis XVI seating meet contemporary sculptural works by Philippe Hiquily, a moon-shaped table by Agnès Debizet, and pieces by Marcello Piacentini. The walls are adorned with Picasso pochoir prints, a Chinese cabinet once owned by Hubert de Givenchy, and an oil painting by Charles Henri Monvert, showcasing Vivier's mastery and multicultural spirit, elegant, avant-garde, and playful.

The office of Creative Director Gherardo Felloni reflects his selective Parisian sensibility, with pink and green tones harmonizing with an Art Deco style Chinese rug, antique chairs, and a sculptural desk by Duccio Maria Gambi. Shelves hold archival boxes containing vintage models, turning the studio into a living theater of creativity, enriched with personal touches such as photographs, cups, and books on art and gardens, drawing on the authenticity of heritage to inspire new visions and innovations.
